Timber Humidification

Humidity Control for Timber Storage & Wood Processing

Timber is hygroscopic by nature. If the surrounding environment is too wet, wood will swell, and if it is too dry, wood will shrink and warp. Maintaining the correct relative humidity throughout timber storage, seasoning, and processing facilities is therefore essential for sawmills, timber merchants, furniture manufacturers, and joinery businesses.

During the manufacture of window frames, furniture, and other similar products, a dry atmosphere will cause wood to shrink, resulting in gapping at joints and in the corners of frames. Where veneers are used, additional problems can occur, causing edges to become uneven and in some cases develop cracks. These issues directly affect product quality and can result in costly waste and rework.

By maintaining an even and correct humidity level throughout the manufacturing process, a high-quality finish can be consistently achieved. A further benefit of correct humidity control in timber environments is the suppression of airborne sawdust, which is kept closer to the ground and out of the surrounding air, providing a safer and more comfortable working environment for the workforce.

J D UltraSonics dry fog humidification systems provide reliable, precise humidity control for timber yards, storage facilities, wood processing plants, and furniture manufacturing environments. Our ultrasonic technology produces ultra-fine water droplets of just 1 micron, which evaporate before reaching timber surfaces, raising humidity without introducing surface moisture that could cause staining, swelling, or mould growth. Nozzles can be strategically positioned throughout large timber storage buildings and processing facilities to ensure even humidity distribution, and the self-cleaning stainless steel nozzle design ensures reliable, long-term operation with minimal maintenance.
